Conditioner Bar (Life) Hack

My dear friends, I have a question. What do you think about conditioner bars?

I love shampoo bars. They foam up nicely, they smell wonderful, and they do what they are supposed to do: clean my hair. They are handy in size, light in weight and last surprisingly long. On top of all that, they are Eco-friendly. I’m totally happy with shampoo bars!

Conditioner bars on the other hand… What’s wrong with them? I have no idea, but it must be quite difficult to produce solid conditioners because the one I use now is a total mystery. I won’t say it’s “horrible” because I’m using it for two months now and it’s not damaging my hair. It means the ingredients are OK. It is just aggravatingly difficult to use. ZERO comfort of use. It takes ages to soften it under a warm shower (which is waste of water and energy) and even when it finally seems a bit softer, there is hardly anything coming off it. It’s rock-hard! I always end up scraping some of it with my nails to speed up the process, so I won’t catch cold in the shower!

After two months of frustration, I decided to act upon it. No, I did not throw it away. That’s Eco-unfriendly. I came up with a simple life hack to use it to the last bit while keeping my frustration to the minimum. I literally hacked the conditioner bar in small cubes!

Every time I take shower, I take one piece of the conditioner cubes and leave the rest in a glass jar. When the time comes to use the conditioner, I put the cube on my palm and mash it into a paste. Add water little by little to loosen the paste. Note: it won’t foam up because it’s a conditioner. When it becomes a watery cream, I apply it to my hair. Wait for a few minutes and rinse, like any other conditioner. This process takes only a minute or so, and it saves a whole lot of everything – from time, water, energy and frustration to probably the conditioner bar itself from being thrown away.

Maybe there are better conditioner bars out there (I truly hope so!), but if you ever end up owning such user-unfriendly ones, please try this life hack.

Lastly, I want to send out a proposal to hair-care brands. It’s wonderful that you produce Eco-friendly products, but please consider making “conditioner cubes” or “conditioner granules/powder” instead of rock-hard bars!
